GSTR 9/ 9C due date to be extended to 31.10.2020 | E-invoicing will be voluntary in the beginning

The due date for filing GSTR 9 and 9C for FY 2018-19 is 30.09.2020. However many representations have been made by industry to extend the due date as people are facing problem in completing GST audit due to the Covid outbreak.

Till date no official statement has been released by government to extend this due date, however based on reports by various news groups it is being speculated that council has decided to extend due date for GSTR 9/ 9C by 1 month till 31.10.2020.

Further, representations have been made by trade groups to make the applicability of E-invoicing on business with turnover above Rs. 500 crore, on voluntary basis in the start.

Earlier it was told that it will be mandatory for all businesses to issue E-invoicing with turnover above Rs. 500 crore from 01.10.2020.
