Last day to file GSTR 3B for February, March and April month without late fees

Due to the Covid situation due dates for GSTR 3B for the month of February to march was changed by virtue of notification 32/2020.

Relaxation for interest:

In the above notification it was mentioned that no interest shall be charged if tax payers with turnover above Rs. 5 crore if filed within 15 days of regular due dates and after that interest shall be charged at the reduced rate of 9% instead of regular 18% interest. However after 24.06.2020 interest on such return shall be charged at 18% again.

This scenario was only for tax payers with turnover above Rs. 5 crore.

Relaxation of late fees:

Similarly it was mentioned in the same notification that no late fees shall be charged if GSTR 3B for the month mentioned above are filed upto 24.06.2020.

After the above date late fee shall be charged at regular amount i.e. Rs. 20 per day for Nil return and Rs. 50 per day for normal return upto Rs. 10,000. Also the late fee shall be charged from the original due date and thus same shall be a huge amount.

Further, do remember that the reduced late fee which was capped at Rs. 500 in a recent council meeting shall not apply here as same was applicable only for returns falling between July 2017 to January 2020. Since these returns are after this period they shall not be covered above.

Thus, this is the last chance to file your GSTR 3B without late fees. Similarly the due date for GSTR 1 return for March, April and May month is 30.06.2020.
