Pendency of Registration under GST as automatic registration suspended during Covid

GST

Many of you might be facing difficulty and delay in getting your registration under GST as compared to earlier where one used to get GST registration within 3-7 days.

This issue has been addressed by GST department vide a circular wherein they have said that earlier if the officer was not taking any action one would get automatic registration within 3 working days as per section 25(10) of CGST Act, 2017.

However due to complete lockdown in nation from 25.03.2020 it was decided that such automatic grant of registration would also be suspended since none of the officers would be working and to assure that such functionality is not misused it was suspended.

After 01.06.2020, lockdown was removed from most of the places and therefore all the application pending till 30.06.2020 and which were not processed till 15.07.2020 were granted deemed registration.

Similarly it has been decided that application received after 30.06.2020 and pending as on 28.07.2020 shall be deemed approved on 31.07.2020 and the 3 days deemed approval of application shall start from 01.08.2020.

Also a few registration which were granted deemed approval in the above time frame due to some glitch in GSTN system shall be soon verified by physical verification.

As of now the circular is not available on GST website but will be soon available.
