After 31.03.2019 it was made compulsory by Income Tax department that refund of income tax will only be issued by online mode and one needs to pre-validate his bank account with Income tax department to get refund and the account which has been pre-validated will get eligible to get refund. Further you can even use such validated bank account to generate EVC and e verify your income tax return if your Aadhar card is not getting linked with the PAN for whatsoever reason.
Now let’s understand how you can pre-validate the bank account. This pre-validation can be done in four simple steps:
Step 1: Log in to your e filing website account.
Step 2: After logging in Go to “Pre-validate your bank account” under “Profile setting” Tab.
Step 3: Fill all the mandatory fields as shown below and submit the request.
Step 4: As soon as you submit the details would be sent to bank for validation if the bank confirms the details the bank account will be added for ECS transfer. However if the same is not accepted by bank i.e. the request is rejected you will have to check the details mentioned with your bank account.
How to know if the bank has been validated or not?
If the bank account is not validated when you will click on pre-validate my bank account you will be again redirected to the form and on the bottom right corner of the form you will find a button with the name “view failed/ removed bank account” at Step 3, you can click on it and check if the bank pre validation has been rejected or failed but unfortunately as of now they don’t provide the exact reason for failure of such pre-validation even when they have a column to show such detail. Let’s hope we get accurate reason of such failure in future.
Meanwhile let’s see what can be the probable and most known reasons for failure of validation?
There can mainly be 3 reasons for validation failure:
- PAN not linked with bank
- Name in PAN card not matching with name in Bank account. There can be a minor change.
- Mobile number not linked in the bank account.
Many a times you would also see the status of the pre-validation as “Request Submitted”, the end result of which in most cases is that request gets rejected so its better to try with another bank or check details with bank account because if the details are correct it gets accepted within few seconds and it would be recommended to use a private bank or well known public bank which has proper computerized system otherwise your bank might not get validated.
