Income Tax department had started the facility to file TDS return on e-filing portal around 4-5 years back, wherein the tax deductor could register on e-filing portal as a tax deductor and directly file it’s TDS return.
Whereas before that tax deductor had to send the fvu file and Form 27A to an agent of NSDL or any such agency of government for filing of it’s TDS return.
On successful filing the TDS return an RRR number would be generated on e-filing portal which the tax deductor has to save or note down somewhere as it is the acknowledgement number that TDS return has been filed and it will be used further if the assessee wishes to download TDS certificates in Form 16 or Form 16A or apply for requesting consol file or request for justification report on TRACES website.
In short the RRR number is the most important thing if an assessee wishes to request anything on TRACES website and if he does not have DSC registered on e-filing portal.
Recently people filing TDS return on e-filing portal have been facing issue wherein the RRR number is not available and when one tries to download the RRR number it shows that RRR number “Not applicable”
Hence, people are not able to make any request on TRACES portal and this has even happened for earlier returns filed and not just for the 1st quarter of FY 2022-23.
We have also contacted the e-filing team with regard to this issue and we were told that this is a technical issue which they are facing on the portal, they have escalated the issue and they are requesting the tax deductors to send an email to “efilingwebmanager@incometax.gov.in” with their query as to for which quarter they are not able to download the RRR number or acknowledgement along with a screenshot of error and TAN number.
Although Income tax e-filing portal is saying to raise a query on e-mail, however it is not possible to raise a request for each person especially for tax professionals who have hundred’s of clients. Hence, e-filing team has to soon find a solution for same.
