Recently our Finance Minister had summoned MD/ CEO of Infosys and asked him as to why there are so many glitches in the new Income tax e-filing website i.e. E-filing 2.0.

Further, in that meeting our Finance Minister had given a deadline of 15.09.2021 to rectify all errors in the new e-filing website.

After the above meeting website has now started working a bit better as compared to earlier and now people are even able to file some Income tax returns, Form 15CB, reply to assessment notice under faceless assessment system and even are even filing Form for re-registration of trust.

However, there is still one issue being faced by taxpayer when they are filing their income tax return and that is related to e-verification of Income tax return.

As per the Income tax rules in India any person who has filed Income tax return needs to verify the income tax return within 120 days of filing or else the same would be considered as invalid return i.e. it will be considered as you have never filed an Income tax return.

To read more on who can e-verify income tax return or who are authorized by Income tax department to verify income tax return in case of different types of entities CLICK HERE.

Now, there are three major methods of e-verifying Income tax return:

1. To digitally sign the Income tax return using DSC at the time of filing return of income.

2. To verify later or

3. To verify at the time of filing return of income.

Not many people in India have Digital signature and hence majority of people use method 2 i.e. e-verify the income tax return later.

Under E-verify later also there are various method such as to either send the signed ITR copy to CPC Bangalore or to e-verify online.

Due to covid many people don’t want to send ITR via post and further when people are getting to verify income tax return online why would anyone send the ITR physically.

Now the main problem starts here when people are trying to e-verify the income tax return later using any method be it using Aadhar OTP or EVC using bank account, Demat etc.

In the above method people are able to generate OTP/ EVC and the taxpayer is even receiving it but when even after enetering correct OTP the website is not accepting the same and is not e-verifying the Income tax return because of which many people are facing issues.

As of now the only solution available for same as per our expirience is to e-verify the Income tax return at the time of filing the return of income using any method be it OTP or EVC. When you e-verify the Income tax return at the time of filing the OTP’s are getting accepted and return is getting verified.

There is no announcement from Infosys as well as to why there is such issue of verification of Income tax return when people try to e-verify later, when people are able to e-verify income tax return if they generate OTP/ EVC at the time of filing return of income.

People who have already filed their income tax return without e-verification in our opinion the only option they have right now is to either send signed copy of Income tax return to CPC, Bangalore or to wait for the Income tax department and Infosys to rectify the error in their website.

Till then you can share this post with Infosys so that they can rectify this error and come to know about this issue.

If you still haven’t filed your Income tax return feel free to book your ITR using below link and don’t worry you will get a e-verified Income tax return.
